Communications and You

With Han's main priority being "get a ship; get off this rock," he's hoping to get the comms system on the dropship up and running. Unfortunately for him, he won't get in contact with anyone he wants to. Fortunately ( maybe ), they'll be able to get in touch with the Station orbiting the planet once it's done.
What does this mean?
With a functional comms system, characters will be able to contact the Station for information, requests, etc. Moreover, they will then gain the opportunity to access a more developed network, including video and text depending on subsequent character actions.

How is this going to happen?
That’s up to everyone! While the communications system in the ship can be salvaged, it’s not yet anywhere near functional. It will take a lot of repair. Moreover, some pieces were fused together when the systems overloaded. These can only be replaced once the second dropship arrives next month, and its parts stripped and repurposed.

Han, much as he'd like to do like his last name and work alone, can't. Otherwise this might take forever. So those characters with any experience working with mechanics and technology, your help will be invaluable.

My character can't be trusted to build anything, but I want to help.
Awesome because we need them. There are a few ways to get involved. Parts will need to be scavenged from both the dropship characters first arrived in and the next to fall. Scavengers can be anyone; they'll be told what to look for.

As this will require heading to the dropship ( and most likely several trips ), guards are of the utmost importance, particularly during their return when they'll likely be weighed down with parts. Those zombies, man.

My character thinks this is a terrible idea.
And they'll have a chance to make it known! Han will be making an IC announcement in a few days. Characters are free to chime in with suggestions, ideas and all the ways this can go so, so wrong.
This plot is open to however characters would choose to participate. Timeline-wise, barring future complications, it'll take at least a month and a few weeks to get the comms up. Feel free to use this post to ask questions, toss suggestions or make plans!

Character: Daryl Dixon
Position: Scavenger/Guard/Assistant

Daryl's not really super-tech savvy, but he's familiar with the whole moving parts/basic electrical work thing. And if anyone of the people he cares about are going out for parts and risking the woods, he'll be one of the first to volunteer to join them both to grab shit and protect them.

Daryl will also probably be using those opportunities to do some light hunting. Squirrel, mostly. Rabbits if they're lucky. Maybe a Raccoon.

Character: Athena
Position: She would offer to help scavenger but would also like to help with the building aspect. She's got lots of knowledge on repairing/building/designing things!

Character: Peter Quill
Position: Peter can probably help on the mechanical side, so long as you accept chewing gum, rubber bands, and paperclips as acceptable means of repair. Otherwise, he can act as a guard or scavenger. Jack of all trades, master of none.
officio: (; my way)

Character: Padme
Position: Mechanic/scavenger, in the sense that she at least knows what the relevant technology looks like and the basic mechanics to how it works, so she can help with looking for parts or give him the parts he needs while working... and while she's definitely no Anakin, she's very determined so if he tells her what to do and it's not incredibly difficult-takes-two-years-to-learn kind of thing, she can probably handle it. I mean, she can fly a ship, so...

Character: Thomas
Position: Maybe mechanic? Definitely can do scavenging.

So, at one point, this kid was a child genius in the way of mechanics and technology and crap but lol he's an amnesiac now 8D he has a lot of basic understanding of "how things work" and stuff tends to come back to him if it's something he understood once (how things work or fit together, not actual technical terms), so him helping out with mechanics would basically look like him picking things up and putting them together and being like 'i feel like this is how this goes :| not actually sure'. like 80% of the time he'll probably get it right :'|

Character: Glenn Rhee
Position: Totally a scavenger; he's also a fast learner, so he could be an assistant with things, too!
